Our History
A group of Seventh-day Adventists living in the Brisbane
Valley chose Esk as the focal point of the Sabbath services they
held. These were often in the homes of the members or in suitable
meeting places. Some of these locations were the CWA rooms in Esk or
Toogoolawah, also the hall at Coominya and later the Lyceum hall.
The families King, Mijatovic, Richardson, Rijavec and
Devlin, decided to consolidate their status and accordingly this
group was officially recognised by the South Queensland Conference
of Seventh-day Adventists.
On July 12th 1986, Pr David Lawson and Pr Robinson
attended the formal establishment of the "Esk Company".
In October 1986 the first monies were sent down to the
Churches Central Bank to form the beginnings of the Church Building
Fund.
January 1987, a committee was formed to oversee the
purchase of land. This was achieved when a double block in Hill
Street was purchased.
The members now employed all their fund-raising skills
and by 1992 building quotations were sought. July 1994 saw the work
on the Church commence and by October all work completed to the
Councils Approval Stage.
The Church was opened and officially dedicated to the
Glory of God on October 29th 1994 by Pastor Peter Colquhoun,
(President of the South Queensland Conference of Seventh-day
Adventists) and the Church Pastor Ervin Ferris. The Esk Mayor Mrs
Jean Bray officially opened the Church.
The on-going work of adding children's rooms and sealing
the driveway are projects that have been since completed.
